Bitgamer shuts down

As of an hour ago bitGAMER closed it doors possibly for good after announcing free leech without an predetermined end, unfortunately I have heard no information other than what is posted on the BG website. Hopefully this will turn out to be one big joke and trackers will be back up by tomorrow. If not, well, this years is already off to a really bad start for anyone with any interest in their internet freedoms.

UPDATE: I found what seems to be a FAQ from the admins on the closing of bitgamer

1. bitGAMER has closed down. This is not a joke.

2. We tried to find new, trusted owners to carry the torch, but after years of attempts fell though, we had no choice but to close down the site. We wouldn't be willing to transfer sensitive database data to a third-party that we're not well acquainted with.

3. We didn't give advance warning due to the nature of the site. We don't want to give any advance notice in case someone was ready to kick someone's door in at the last minute.

4. If you are a donor, then we greatly appreciate your support that allowed bitGAMER to live a long, successful life in the service of its community. If you donated within the last month, then you can contact an administrator to get a refund.

5. We are shutting down because it's time for us to move on. There are no secret meaning beyond what was posted on the front page.

6. Lastly, thanks again for all of your support over the years. 7 years is a long time for any site to live, especially a site of this nature. We appreciate your support which has allowed us such a long life. Thank you.

L4D2 and NS2

After winning the tourney at UAH and noticing there was a free week for L4D2 I decided to play some random matches to see how things were after not playing for a year excluding my time in the tourney. There have been no changes to gameplay what so ever and I see people still leave as soon as a match starts to go south for them. I feel like this game really would have benefited from a system that rewards seeing a match to the end and punishes leavers such as League of Legends does. Playing in the L4D2 tourney was the most fun I had playing since the game's release.

Now onto the main attraction.

Natural Selection 2 is a tactical shooter pitting the alien Khara versus the human Frontiersmen. a tactical shooter is one in which one player must sit in the hot seat and command all the other players from a RTS view to give orders and setup buildings to build. This game is interesting due to the fact that it's not just one team with guns vs another team with guns, the Khara must use stealth and deception due to the fact that a majority of their team must fight at melee range with teeth and claws. This post isn't here to describe the gameplay in detail, only to say THIS GAME IS AWESOME AND YOU SHOULD TOTALLY GET IT.

Here's a video.

Of course, most people who are interested in this game would have seen this video by now, hopefully I'll see you in game sometime!

FTL and a new Valve title.

Earlier this week I managed to complete FTL on hard mode, was quite an experience. But what does FTL have to do with rumors about a new Valve title? Instead of trying to paraphrase and steal the work of another site I'll link to it directly.

Space

Could Valve be looking to move in on the space mmo market? Who knows! What I do know is that I'm quite excited for this and can't wait to hear more. While GamingBolt says that this only a rumor, I doubt it's anything less than Valve's next big game judging by all the work you can see being put into it from the concept art.
